DENVER, Colo. - Halfway to opening day and construction of the FasTracks line to Golden is 50 percent complete, RTD says.
By 2013, the West Corridor should be serving Denver, Lakewood, the Denver Federal Center, Golden and Jefferson County.
"This is my dream. This is my legacy and it was worth my time," said Nettie Moore.
Moore is one the Light Rail's biggest supporters. She's trying to dispel a conception her neighborhood near West Federal is bad.
"When I say the 1200 block of Utica, people question me. I say, yes I live there. I love it. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else," said Moore.
Like many supporters at RTD's celebration at Paco Sanchez Park, Moore is optimistic what the Light Rail will bring.
"When this Light Rail system is completed, people are going to want to move here," said Moore.
With the ceremonial opening of the Hazel Court Pedestrian Bridge across Lakewood Gulch, RTD General Manager Phil Washington says it improves livability within Denver communities.
"The progress on West Corridor marks the halfway point on the long-awaited train to connect downtown Denver and the Jefferson County Government Center, and will boost the agency's effort to complete the entire $6.7 billion FasTracks program," said Washington.
