The Highwayman filming at Boettcher Mansion
Arts & Culture, News

The Highwayman came riding up to the old inn door?

So says Alfred Noyes?s classic poem entitled ?The Highwayman.? In this case the ?old Inn? will be Boettcher Mansion in Jefferson County when filming begins there July 26th.

The action/adventure feature film The Highwayman starring Boulder actor Macleish Day has been shooting in Colorado since last fall.

Production began on The Highwayman September 6, 2009 at the Colorado Governor?s Residence ? (The Highwayman was the first movie ever to film there), continued with shoots at the Zang Mansion in Denver and the Louviers Village Clubhouse in tiny Louviers in Douglas County, two studio shoots at Asgard Entertainment, including a cameo by Martin Kove and two days at Hildebrand Ranch at the Denver Botanical Garden's Chatfield location.

The Highwayman is set in 18th century England, but the production company is taking advantage of Colorado?s revival architecture to recreate the place and the time.  ?The stone and timbered ?arts and craft? architecture of the ?Fireside Room? of Boettcher Mansion makes a perfect setting for an old country Inn in 18th century England. We are shooting farm scenes at Denver Botanical Gardens at Chatfield and other countryside scenes in Arapahoe, Jefferson and Douglas Counties,? said producer Darlene Cypser.

Macleish Day stars as Will Stiles, a young man who becomes the Highwayman to revenge his family. Day is best known locally for his Colorado Light Opera portrayals of Sir Evelyn Oakleigh in Anything Goes in the summer of 2009 and J. Pierrepont Finch in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in the summer of 2008, as well as his recent appearance as Tulsa in Gypsy, Macleish also plays Will?s grandfather Sir Malcolm Stiles in flashbacks in The Highwayman. Day has recently been accepted to attend the respected Lee Strasberg Institute in Los Angeles. Day?s co-stars include the lovely Marianne Page as Bess the landlord?s daughter and Tom Doyle as Jake, the landlord.

The movie is being produced by Darlene Cypser and and directed Trygve Lode of Inferno Film Productions. Leading the camera department as Director of Photography is veteran cinematographer Edward Done. Working with Lode and Done will be Mark Grove  of Asgard Entertainment.  Mark, a stunt coordinator and director of 20 years experience, will be acting as 2nd unit director, directing action shots and advising Lode as he directs his first feature. The primary camera to be used for The Highwayman will be Asgard Entertainment?s Red One HD camera.

The Highwayman is a production of The Highwayman Motion Picture, LLC, a subsidiary of Inferno Film Productions, LLC.  Inferno Film Productions aka Inferno Motion Pictures, located south of the metro area, is a motion picture production and sale company.  Since 2003 Inferno has been primarily focused on sales of motion picture distribution rights, exhibiting at the American Film Market in Santa Monica, California each year and acting as a sales agent for other producers.  Inferno is currently offering foreign and domestic rights for about 20 motion pictures.
